The cricket club's annual annual athletics festival was held at North Road on Saturday 17th June 1882, using a marked out grass track of four laps to the mile. There was a one mile local bicycle handicap race and a two miles open race, there were over 2,000 spectators. In the one mile race there were only two competitors and the second rider was obviously a beginner and had difficulty in propelling his bicycle, so much so that the second prize was withheld. After this meeting, the sports do not seem to have been held again for almost a decade.
After a lapse of several years, the Glossop Cricket Club sports were revived on 29th June 1890 at the North Road ground. The one mile bicycle handicap race was won R Hardie of Salford, who had the advantage of riding a pneumatic. In the two miles handicap, JE Feay of Manchester borrowed Hardies pneumatic machine and won the race by a yard. There were 2,500 spectators and music was provided by the Glossop Old Brass Band.
The sports were held again in 1891, but the press complained of low and poor quality entries in the one mile local bicycle handicap and a two miles open race. The last bicycle racing at North Road was at the Glossop Cricket and Football Club amateur athletic sports, which was held on Saturday 29th June 1895.
The cricket club purchased the ground from Lord Howard in 1925. The ground is still used by Glossop Cricket and Bowling Club.
